  1. After graduating from the U. of Miami (Coral Gables, FL) she married Tom Stevens. Around 1978 they moved from their apartment behind Dadeland Mall (South Miami) to their new home in Pembroke Pines, FL, and lived there until Tom, who worked (and still does) for Unisys, were transferred up to Atlanta, GA in the summer of 1981. Her daughter, Julia, was born in November 1980, and now she is married and the mother of two daughters, Amy (2+) and Isabela Sophia, who was born this last April. Marleen was mostly a stay at home mom, but was also a substitute teacher when Julia was is school. She had several cats and a couple of dogs that also kept her on her toes.

The Sunday morning when she died, she had gotten up early with her grand-daughter Amy to watch one of Amy's favorite shows, so "grand-pa could sleep a little longer" ... when Tom came downstairs, he found Amy fussing at Marleen, because the show had ended. He realized that Marleen had died while sitting in the chair as she watched Amy watch her show. Paramedics were called, but it was too late, and it was ruled a heart attack. Other than allergies and bouts of asthma, which she was under doctor's care for, I wasn't aware of any other medical issues, except she was overweight ... something that she had to deal with most of her adult life.

Also, she was a true Harry Potter fan, and involved with an international fan club, all of whom felt the deep loss, which they shared with Tom after Marleen's death. She was also known as Marmy. He and Julia, apparently joked with Marleen about her Harry Potter group, calling them "Marmy's Potter Heads". The group is planning a get-to-together in Orlando, FL, in 2010, and they told Tom that they are going to print up t-shirts with Marmy's Potter Heads" in her honor.

She was so looking forward to seeing the birth of her second grand-daughter, and coming to my eldest son's wedding Mother's Day weekend

  2. Marlene and I were very close at MDBK Jr High. So sorry to hear of Marlene's passing. I remember the house on Bald Pate Hill Road and being kissed by her second cousin, comedian Norm Crosby. It seems as though Marlene had a life full of love and left a beautiful legacy. My deepest wishes go to Tom, Daughter Julia and Grand Babies. Love and peace to you, amy from meadowbrook jr high
